Luke Nachtrab, Owner, is a father of 3 children (Joey, Kate and Molly) and married to his lovely wife Kara. They currently live in Sylvania, OH where they were both raised and where Vista Living Home Office is based. He started his career shortly after completing his undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University. As first employee of Northaven, the Nachtrab Family Business Management Company, Luke created an infrastructure to manage approximately 75 residential properties in the Toledo, OH area. Assuming operations of Vista Living, the family assisted living facilities in 2004 (www.vistaliving.com) his passion and love for the elderly, particularly those walking with forgetfulness, and their families began to flourish. He was named President of Vista Living Communities in 2011 where he utilizes his background to maintain the highest standards of care for those with Alzheimer’s. Moving his young family to Santa Fe for 4 months in 2014 he began to set the company up for growth. His passion for this business and making a positive impact on those with Dementia and their families is evident in his approach and philosophies. Using values taught by his parents he brings integrity and compassion to business. With this as a guide he operates VLC as a business second; always trying to do what is right despite potential impact on the business.
Luke has a wide a diverse business background being intimately involved in executive leadership with global internet businesses, restaurants, real estate and logistics. He has been on numerous organizational boards in the Toledo area. He currently serves on the St John’s Jesuit High School Board and Finance Committee. Engaging with the Industry he is also active on Argentum, panels on their mission to Expand Senior Living.
Continuously improving, Luke has completed many non-degree courses in the last 15 years and in 2011 completed his MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. He is an instrument rated pilot, loves skiing, golfing, soccer, squash, fishing, culture, traveling, watching The Buckeye’s and being Dad! He looks forward to raising his children to someday be involved with the business.
Velma Arellano, MA, CDP, CALA, Director of Operations, has been working in elder care for the past 2 decades, and is the longest standing administrator in Santa Fe. She has overseen $2 million in construction and design to create two state of the art, intentional Alzheimer’s Care homes in New Mexico, and very recently acquired a third, non-Alzheimer’s, 14 bed, cozy, Assisted Living Bungalow in Santa Fe. The latter, Vista Hermosa is drawing on the cutting edge of culture change by incorporating the ideas of permaculture with elder care. Both Memory Care homes are the only two Eden Alternative Registered homes in New Mexico, and Vista Hermosa is well on its way. Eden Alternative is the honor society of long term care, and is an International Movement which truly changes the culture of how we care for our elders. Velma introduced “real” pets to our homes for elders to enjoy, goats, chickens, peacocks, and recently a 10-week-old German Sheppard puppy named Silver.
Ms. Arellano is a certified assisted living administrator (CALA), Certified Dementia Practitioner through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners (NCCDP), and an Eden Alternative Associate. Velma has served on the board of Directors of the New Mexico Alzheimer’s Association and was only one 7 citizens who started the first Annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Santa Fe, Espanola and Los Alamos. She is a member of the 305th annual Fiesta’s de Santa Fe Council and was instrumental in the legislative passage of Helen’s Law. This law protects endangered elders, which eventually gave attention to the Silver Alert Program, like Amber Alert, but for memory impaired adults. Ms. Arellano is also a member of the National Biodynamic Association (Tierra Viva) and the Earth Citizens Organization (ECO) and is committed to mindful living and a sustainable world. Velma is active with Shim-Sung, Brain Yoga. Shim meaning heart, and Sung meaning open.
Ms. Arellano holds a Masters Degree in Agency Counseling and Psychology from New Mexico Highlands University and Bachelor’s Degree in Television Broadcast Journalism/ Mass Communication and Spanish.
As a volunteer, Velma is a member of the New Mexico Health Care Association and NM Assisted Living Task Force Committee (NMHCAALF) . She sits at the table making her voice heard in guiding NMHCAALF’s advocacy in the New Mexico long-term care delivery system. She helps identify and establish policies and provide resources that give people a real opportunity to improve the quality of life and quality of care in New Mexico’s frail elderly and intellectually-disabled populations.
Ruth Dennis, Senior Director of Social Services & Education, is the heart of Sierra Vista. She has provided emotional support and education for a myriad of families, professionals, colleges & Universities, eager to learn about or who are facing challenges with all forms of Dementia, specifically the Alzheimer’s type. She ensures our elders lives are rich and our homes is filled with art, music, dance, books, laughter and wholesome food. To name a few, Ms. Dennis during her tenure with Vista Living Community has shared her expertise with The New Mexico Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, The New Mexico Conference’s on Aging, Dementia & Arts Conference, panelist for the Self-Care Revolution via Santa Fe Soul, Panelist for Christus St. Vincent Palliative Care Conferences and is a founding member of the “Community at Residence” through the Museums of New Mexico, Site Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Opera. Ruth has spoken at numerous radio shows including NPR’s Fresh Air, several television segments including the NBC Today Show, and juried, traveling national art exhibitions. Ms. Dennis’ work history has also included; work with National Endowment for the Arts funded grants for the Bemis Foundation and the MexiArts Grant which implements creativity and healing programs for gifted and at risk children, recovery programs and transitional homes that serve homeless and mentally ill adults, and elders facing dementia. In 2016, Ruth’s Biography was selected from countless applications from around the world to present at the International Eden Alternative Conference which was held in Little Rock, Arkansas, and will be presenting at the National Conference of Art Therapists in 2017. Ruth fuse’s her life as a painter, cook, gardener and most of all; sister and primary caregiver to her brother who has Down’s syndrome. Morgan is her hero, and will always be her greatest teacher.
Jean Abercrombie, HR Director, focuses on the human resource management for the companies, consisting of payroll and benefit administration and management; legal compliance review and representation; workers’ compensation and unemployment tracking and administration; recruiting, employee retention, incentives, performance evaluations and incentives; policy creation andjob description updating and implementation, and disciplinary actions and employee grievance dispute mediation.
Jean received her JurisDoctor from the University of Toledo, College of Law in 2000 and graduated cum laude in 1996 from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor’s of Arts and Science majoring in Spanish and German. Prior to joining Northaven, she worked in the real estate industry focusing on human resource management and real estate law for a family business, and also spent 3 years instructing Industrial Organizational Psychology, Human Resource Management and Employment Law courses at Owens Community College.
Jean loves spending time with her children, gardening, caring for animals, nature walking, ice skating with children with special needs, teaching in the youth program at church, making soap with my daughter and playing Pokemon GO with her son.
Charlene Nicholas, Controller, a Virginia native who moved to Sylvania over 10 years ago to begin her career with Northaven Development Group, is responsible for leading and directing the Corporate Accounting Office on all accounting functions. With her tenure, she has worked and progressed in all aspects of the various businesses and has played an instrumental role in the project development of our processes and procedures. Her accounting strengths and ambition led her to advance into the Controller position in 2017.
Charlene loves to help others and is a great problem solver. She is always able to figure out the most efficient way to get a project completed and uses the latest technology to advance our processes. Her positive attitude and personality create a welcoming environment for all our employees and customers.
Charlene is married to her very supportive husband Curtiss and is the mom of two beautiful girls, Aubrey and Morgan. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Accounting with the goal to obtain her CMA certification from Arizona State University. When not at work, she enjoys traveling and having dance parties in her living room with her family.
Corinne Allison, Account Manager, concentrates on management of the Vista Living Communities facilities, including all accounts payable, accounts receivable, processing payroll, issuance of financial statements and assisting with internal and external audits in compliance with HUD regulations. Corinne began working for Northaven Development Group in Human Resources until she transitioned into account management and working primarily with Vista Living Communities. She now very much enjoys working with the staff at Vista Living Communities and strives to continuously implement improvements to lead to the overall success and growth of the company. While pursuing her Business degree, Corinne began working part time for TCMax Systems, LLC. as an Administrative Assistant, where she gained valuable knowledge and experience in accounting, software development and financial management. Corinne completed her Bachelor’s Degree from Thomas Edison State University in Business Administration, with a focus in finance and accounting. After finishing her degree, she continued working for TCMax Systems and also began to work for Huntington National Bank where she was able to establish excellent client relationships and gain a wide knowledge of financial procedures, products and services. Outside of her position at Northaven Development Group, Corinne enjoys traveling with her husband, being outdoors, camping, playing the piano on her church’s praise team and attending sporting events.
Katlyn Canning, PHR, Marketing Director, is married to her husband Chase and is a mother to her daughter Charis. Katlyn currently has her Associate’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, with a major in Human Resources and strong focus in Marketing. She also holds the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation.
In 2006, Katlyn worked as a Third-Party Administrator Service Representative at Mackinaw Administrators where she focused on workers’ compensation claims and assisting claim adjusters. She was also an HR intern at Macy’s while studying at the University of Toledo. She assisted with the broad realm of Human Resource functions, expanding her knowledge of her major. She then went on to work for Northaven Development Group as an HR Specialist with a focus on safety and workers’ compensation. Katlyn left to work as an HR Consultant for HR Advocate, LLC, serving clients in many different industries. In 2014, Katlyn returned to Northaven Development Group and has since been part of the Human Resource functions and marketing development of their companies, Vista Living Communities being one.
Katlyn’s family is top priority in her life and she is very grateful for her husband and daughter. Katlyn also enjoys travelling. Arizona and Massachusetts are at the top of her list. She loves all things sports and outdoor activities. Katlyn is a track coach during the spring time and enjoys spending her time with high school athletes and investing in their lives.
